MLD^®:

• PureDepth^®’s Multi-Layer Displays™ (MLD^®) contain two or more layers of display panels placed in front of one another in a single monitor, with patented technology used to remove optical interference. Working independently, each layer can serve as either the background or the foreground, showing content in its surroundings and adding relevant information as context. Bright Colors and Incredible Contrast

With MLD^® technology, standard content can be enhanced on-the-fly, providing intense colors and brilliant contrast that result in a more life like visual experience than any other existing display technology.

Color

• As standard content is displayed on the front panel of a Multi-Layer Display™, the rear panel is tinted to improve the saturation of colors in the image without sacrificing overall brightness. The result is a wide color gamut showing vibrant and natural color and a high level of detail for standard images and video.

Contrast

• MLD^® displays are capable of spectacular high contrast giving content a superior look and feel compared to displays with normal contrast. Typical LCD displays achieve a 1000:1 contrast ratio – this is the range between the darkest and lightest part of the display. With the back layer of a Multi-Layer Display™ lightening and darkening different areas of an image for the front layer, dynamic contrast control can be achieved resulting in at least a 100,000:1 contrast ratio – 100 times greater than traditional displays.
• Single-layer LCD technology is notoriously bad at displaying the color black. Instead, viewers often see a murky grey. MLD^® technology allows people to see content the way the creator intended by providing the deepest, richest blacks. It does this by displaying black in both LCD layers, making for an enhanced viewing experience.
• MLD^® displays support High Dynamic Range (HDR) content, which offers more lifelike images by utilizing a greater range of colors. The displays do this by using high-end cameras and technologies such as DisplayPort, the chosen display interface for Apple’s flagship 24” LED Cinema Display, to carry the additional information needed for high-contrast content. Trying to view HDR imagery on a standard display is like viewing a movie in High Definition on a non-HD capable screen. MLD^® displays can display true HDR content and enhance standard content to look like HDR content.

A Better Approach to Stereoscopic 3-D

MLD^® technology allows for content to fly off the screen without the use of glasses. The 3-D stereo effect can be applied to individual graphical objects, providing greater clarity than typical 3-D technologies, which cut the resolution of the entire screen in half. This visual effect can be combined with multi-layered and image-enhancing effects within the same piece of content, offering a unique combination visual effect that is not possible on any other 3-D display device.

• Unlike most 3-D technologies on the market today, MLD^® technology does not attempt to “trick” the brain into perceiving a 3-D image. Instead, it places two or more display panels in front of one another in a single monitor to create real depth to display 3-D images. Working together, the multiple panels can show pictures and graphics that appear behind, between and in front of one another and viewers don’t have to wear special glasses to get the full impact. Even more importantly, MLD^® technology doesn’t give people headaches, dizziness, fatigue or loss of orientation like other 3-D display technologies that simulate depth rather than creating real depth.

Watch from anywhere:

• Most 3-D displays have a “sweet spot.” If you’re not sitting or standing in exactly the right place, you won’t get the full 3-D impact. In fact, you may see nothing but a distorted image. MLD^®-based 3-D displays let people watch from wherever they want, without disrupting their normal viewing behavior.

• MLD^®-based visual displays increase people’s ability to manage information by offering an intuitive way for them to view multiple objects or data streams on one screen.
